A Glance at 2020 (Watashi no monogatari)

Introduction:

What a year 2020 was, I can’t fathom how it happened, but I’m grateful, thankful, and humbled. Starting this year, So ecstatic and energetic. Oh! The year had many expectations, plans for my brand, plans for my academics, and career plans. On January 3rd, 2020, I heard my friends & mentors were involved in a car crashed and the vehicle somersaulted, it gave me a shock Nd made me sleep for almost 24 hours thinking so bad. But later, everyone was ok and sound. I had to push no matter what, from meetings with TinX to make Rivers State University, 1st tertiary university in West Africa use Visual and Augmented Reality in her learning curriculum.

Yes! I had plans for everything, had planned my church, school, and my friends (especially Delight Magnus, at that time), and I went all out for it, simultaneously draining myself, all in the name of standing out. Days later I went To Victoria Island, to AYE West African Head office all for a conference, Oga was so hyped. Cruised V.I, before I knew it, I had cruised my alawee, even the bolt driver hacked my account, which i dont know how but i just know i didn't later go on with the ride, couldn't end it and my account was debited, I had to block my ATM card, cause it was my primary ATM.

2.jpg Africa Young Entrepreneurs West Africa HQ, VI, Lagos Nigeria Went to Eko Hotels and suite, funny enough that was the day they had AMAA awards but had to leave cause security was tight, days later when I came back to pH, and COVID 19 was strong, they said everyone that visited Eko that day should be quarantined. Hey! Wahala o, Who sent me o. I started feeling sick at that period. Lol. The mind is powerful, really thought i had COVID, lol.

It’s very funny how everything happened, from personal branding to improving my skills, getting certificates upon certificates. Building a more reasonable user interface, understanding the User Experience process, and going all out for my career.

I can’t specifically state the achievements here, But they were so great that the only thing I didn’t achieve was only one from my list of “Double Chikara”.

Thanking God for everything, from becoming a User Interface Instructor, to a Brand identity Design instructor, to Teaming up with Destiny to train 43 teenagers and youths in different tech careers such as programming, Graphic design, and Digital Marketing. The idea was to catch them young and introduce them to it. That was one of the most stressful 1month of my life, 3 classes a week, had to borrow laptops from friends just to teach these kids how to code, design, and market. Oh! The youngest person was a 9 years old girl who was in the digital marketing class, she was awesomely good and could explain to the full extent what SEO was and lots of stuff.

It was stressful because even the teenagers that wanted to learn how to code, didn't know the basics of the computer, so had to take a crash course for everyone, using 2 days.

Resources were spent, time, and value, and after the Bootcamp, I was so excited we were done. With certificates issued, signed by the Co-Founder of TechRise Africa and my big mentor PST Jude Uwandu. (Special Thanks to Alabo Excel, Queenette, and Ugochukwu Okere)

This year was full of community service, volunteering, lecturing Nd training, from Partnering with Meghee, and training her interns in UI/UX, to becoming a family with them, redesigning their cloudnotte software, to Building Timuin’s Mobile app user interface.

Also hosted Temitope, Afri Labs Design Lead, Dr Jenny Grant Rankin (An Author, lecturer at US Department of State) at Emerge Africa Conference.

Also hosted Divine Okon (Data Scientist and Machine Engineer at Christie’s Lab and also Stephen Oladele ( Data Scientist and AI consultant. Also, Lead @Ph School of AI. I can’t say all. But I’m grateful for growth.

Godwin Jimmy (CTO Dantown Asset) is a very annoying person but the best at what he does. With ideas upon ideas and how to execute them. youtube.com/watch?v=V960olocj_g&t=1444s

I had many challenges, was depressed many times, many declined results, many unfinished projects, proposals that weren’t accepted, Failed attempts, struggles, and trials, but still, I came out stronger and better. There was this time I almost gave up my academics, I remembered calling Delight Magnus (Sometime around May/June), telling her about it, how exhausted and tired I was and how stressful so many things were in my life, also that the next day, I would go take a defer form to fill. Somehow I stopped, can’t remember what stopped me. I was like, let me battle those things and survive. Lol.

Here I am… Smiling and waiting for resumption to begin my finals and give out to my School Rivers State University, not just to learn but to set them on a high stake. 2 Major products landing in January, so many high expectations for 2021.

Also, Competing in my 1st Global hackathon and not winning made me weak too, cause I thought we would win. But anyway, it gave me what I needed to push far.

Lots happened, and I’m grateful for everything, and everyone. To my family, Ardi, my Tech Family, TechRise Family, Meghee Family, Amazing Life Family, everyone.
