So, what is UI/UX, let’s start with UX.

What is UIUX

User experience (abbreviated as UX) is how a person feels when interfacing with a system. The system could be a website, a web application, desktop software or a product in general. The overall experience a user has with a product. UX isn’t really about design, but it focuses more on research to understand what the user wants, the priorities of the user to make the user comfortable and in control when using that product or service.

What is UI:

The user interface is the look and feels of a product or service, basically, a UI designer focuses on the look and layout like buttons, images, text, checkboxes, icons, and other visual elements people interact with

The UI design is the way the designer creates so that the user can use it and feel, focusing on the styles and appearance of the website or mobile application. UI/UX is not the same but most times they go together and are interchangeable (UX/UI or UI/UX).

So in summary, whatever you see on your computer is the user interface, from the buttons, text, icons, etc, then your interaction and the feeling you get while using that product is the UX.

A UI/UX designer is responsive in creating a product that the user will find easy to use and enjoyable. Note that the term UXUI design means and works differently for many people.

A great product combines good UX design and UI design. Think about it this way: if your app or website or product is has a well-designed UI but poor UX, you could lose half of your potential users. The UI The design of a website or a product helps convey information and values to the user. If the design is not appealing, a user will likely move on and leave your site or stop using your product. That is why UX or UI plays a vital role in the success of your product or website.

UX involves research, testing, and experimentation work that will improve the user experience on that product. While UI focuses more on enticing the user to continue using that product that the UX designer makes. A UI designer uses icons, motions, graphic tools, and branding to make the product appealing for the use Have you ever deleted an app or did you stop using an app or stop visiting a website? If yes then yes, that site or product has a bad UX.

Just like life and everything, there are rules to design, rules to programming, and also rules in UI design. They are three important principles in UI Design

  • Giving user control over the product
  • Keeping Interface consistency.
  • Reducing the burden of memory on the user.

Having these in mind, a UI Designer shouldn't fail to establish these three principles in his/her design.

How to get started as a UI Designer?

Well if you love or want to get started as a UI designer, there are many things to do to get started, like enrolling in a UI design course to get the necessary skills.

What you will need to learn?

Note: Having a background in graphics design would be of added advantage if you want to drive through the walkway of UI design but if you don’t have, it’s still no big deal, all you need is the right knowledge and materials to become one.

A good UI designer should know the principles of UI design such as:

  • Colours
  • Typography
  • Contrast
  • Balance
  • Wireframing and prototyping
  • User research and personas
  • Style guides
  • Learn to use UI design tools: UI designs are created by many different tools and knowing how to use these tools is a major requirement because UI can't be made without them. There are different UI tools or software one can use such as Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, infusion, Flinto, Protopie, Marvel amongst others.
